Child Abuse Is A Strict Subject Upon Our Society - 1751 Words
Child abuse is a strict subject upon our society. Now days correcting your kids by spanking them when they do wrong is considered a form of abuse and can involve Child Protective Services. Many parents still believe that this is the correct way to discipline their children; however, to others this is a form of child abuse. There are many forms of abuse that children encounter such as emotional, physical and sexual. Depending on the severity of the abuse, it could potentially cause damage or mental instability or severe psychiatric disorders to children who encounter abuse regularly. There are many studies that provide information on what type of harm each abuse can cause or lead to in later stages of life. Newly found evidence has shown that child abuse whether it be physical, sexual or emotional, can affect suicide behavior and can be linked to many deaths. Studies have shown that life-time suicidal attempts and ideation tend to be three times greater in individuals who have a past related to sexual or physical abuse compared to individuals who havenââ¬â¢t had any of these experiences in their past. These higher risks may relate to the higher rates of psychiatric disorders found in victims of abuse. When a victim of childhood abuse is diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, whether it be severe or mild, the victim may already be unstable and have days where they are fine and others where they are not in their right mind. The instability of psychiatric disorders makes it that much easier for an individual who has had a past full of abuse to attempt or commit suicide. It is resulted that depression is a sign of suicidal behavior; however, different mediators can affect the extent of the suicidal behavior depending on the extent of abuse they have inflicted a child. Anxiety is another common psychiatric disorder that may cause a risk for suicide ideation, attempts or actual completions due to always being on edge, antisocial and insecure.
