Until the Council of Logistics Management modified the definition of logistics to specify it as a subsection of supply chain management, many considered the two terms as one in the same. New learnings in the arena of supply chain management demonstrate the supply chain’s ability to support organizational business strategies. A supply chain in its entirely encompasses a wide range of activities from basic commodities, to selling finished goods to consumers, to recycling products (Harrison van Hoek, 2011). This includes the process of planning and controlling procurement, transportation, conversion, and distribution across the entire supply chain. Simply stated, supply chain management is the method in which business gets done.
